Frequently asked questions....

Why do you not do FREE connection like some other ISP's
There are many reason. BT Openreach (not BT retail) charge ALL ISP's which use their network a £47 setup fee for new users. It's their cost to setup the ADSL between your line and your exchange. Some ISP's use marketing to attract you with "Free setup" but tie you into a 1 year or more contract with various penalties if you cancel. If their service isn't very good you'll often have to pay a get-out clause. We try to keep thing simple and give you a 1 month rolling contract - that way you know exactly where you are and can vote with your feet if we're not performing!

Other ISP's do free Modems too?
They're often the cheapest Far East imports they can get their hands on and will cause more trouble in the long run. They buy them for less than a tenner in some cases! I'm sure you'll want something decent and reliable (and with our next-day swappout warranty).

How fast will my connection be, 8Mbits?
Although advertised as 8Mbit, it's "up-to-8Mbits" (even then it's technically impossible to get more than about 7). Your speed will depend on the quality of your cabling from your house to the exchange, and the total length of of line. If you're more than 2.5km from the exchange you'll be lucky to get 3Mbit. BT reckon most people will actually get about 4Mbit. You can check what speed we think you'll get here.

How much does it cost to migrate to MacAce
It's free to migrate to us unless you're migrating from an LLU provider (non-BT line) like Bulldog or Carphone Warehouse. At present there's a £47 fee for this (we're part of the campaign to abolish this too)

If I want to move to another provider can I get a MAC code?
Yes, without any problem, we'll get one within 48hours for you (your contract will remain active for 30 days but you can move providers within that period, you'll still be charged for the 30 days)

What if I move house
At present you have to cancel your line with us and have a new connection in your new house (and pay the £47 connection fee). BT and Ofcom are looking at this though and may make changes as it's not really ideal. We need 30days notice ideally.

I've got a Mac and a PC in my house, can I still use MacAce?
Of course. Our routers and service works fine with any computer (or games console). We even have some setup sheets lying around somewhere to help if necessary.

Can I pay by direct debit?
At present we only take credit and debit cards but are looking at a DD solution for the near future. You can setup a standing order to us though.

Unlimited Off-peak?
Yep, it's only fair. All packages have limits, that's how they are differentiated in price. But.... we won't count any of your usage during our least busy periods (12-7am) because we've got bags of capacity at that time of night - our network prefers to be kept busy anyway!
